Morwood’s path to ballet was anything but conventional. “I got my first contract when I was 15,” she says. With her parents’ support, Morwood left formal high school to dance full-time with Montgomery Ballet, earning her diploma in the evenings after rehearsal. “I had only been dancing five years, but I studied YouTube videos and books about ballet technique like a crazy person all day, every day. I had to learn somehow.” Morwood’s experiences with Montgomery Ballet gave her experience and confidence that she says make her a stronger dancer. Morwood joined the Cincinnati Ballet Second Company in 2009 and worked her way up to Soloist for the 1516 Season.
Fun fact: Abby, and fellow dancer Courtney Connor Jones, have started an organic accessories business called Jonewood Organics. Abby says, “It is great because we are so close and to be business partners is really fun. We complement each other so well!”
