Serena joined the Cincinnati Ballet in 2015. This year in The Nutcracker, she will be dancing the roles of Rose and Snow Queen.
How long have you been dancing? Why did you become a dancer?
Believe it or not, I was very shy when I was young, so when I was 3 years old my mom put me in dance class in hopes of “bringing me out of my shell”. By the time I was 8 I had fallen in love with ballet and I knew that I wanted to become a professional ballerina.
Who, or what, was your biggest teacher?
All of my teachers have been great and I feel that each of them, in some special way, have helped me become the dancer I am today. If I had to pick just one it would definitely be Magaly Suarez at the Art of Classical Ballet! Training with her was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. I truly believe that she took me from being a student and molded me into a professional dancer.
If you had to eat one thing for every meal going forward, what would it be?
Well, it’s no secret that I can’t live without Coke Zero, but that’s technically not a food! So I guess I’d have to say an Egg McMuffin with NO BACON!
What’s your secret talent?
I’m a fabulous French twist maker! I consider it a work of art. I pretty much do all of the girls’ hair in my dressing room.
What is your most-used emoji?
Hands down my favorite and most used emoji is 😘.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I’m definitely a dog person! I have a Maltese-Poodle and 2 Maltese-Pomeranians! My 3 little balls of white fluff!
