Catherine Lasak

CB2 | Crystal Lake, Illinois | Joined Cincinnati Ballet in 2018

Catherine began her ballet training in Crystal Lake, Illinois at the Judith Svalander School of Ballet. For her junior and senior years of high school, she commuted to Chicago to train with the Ballet Chicago Studio Company under the artistic directorship of Daniel Duell. She spent two summers at the School of American Ballet and one summer at the Pacific Northwest Ballet on full scholarship. Following her summer at PNB in 2016, she studied in the Professional Division on full scholarship under the artistic directorship of Peter Boal at PNB. After one year in the Professional Division, she joined Grand Rapids Ballet as an Apprentice for the 2017-2018 Season under the directorship of Patricia Barker. Catherine is now in the Second Company with Cincinnati Ballet.  Roles that she has performed include Juliet in Kenneth MacMillan’s Balcony Scene in Romeo and Juliet, George Balanchine’s Who Cares – Five Girls, George Balanchine’s Square Dance, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, and an original work Adam’s Key choreographed by Dani Rowe.

Touchet will never forget her 19th birthday. That was the day Victoria Morgan came to Pacific Northwest Ballet, to audition Touchet’s professional division. “Directors from everywhere auditioned us, but nobody ever picked me,” she says. “I remember thinking she wouldn’t like me anyway, so I told myself to just have fun, and after it was over, she said, ‘I’d like to talk to Janessa’.” Crossed wires with communicating Touchet’s acceptance of Morgan’s apprenticeship offer led to a planned spot with Memphis Ballet, but Morgan called one last time and Touchet was able to come to Cincinnati Ballet instead. “It was meant to be here. I started as an Apprentice and moved all the way through the ranks. I had always had my heart and mind set on Cincinnati Ballet.”
