Spring Master Class
The Horton Experience Master Class
April 21, 2013
Sunday, April 21: Level 6/7 from 1-3 pm*
The Horton Technique, developed by modern dance pioneer, Lester Horton, involves a series of warm ups and studies called “Fortifications”, each one a small piece of choreograph designed to work on specific muscle groups while developing an acute sense of musicality. In this 2-hour workshop, we will focus on learning the Basic Warm Up, along with one or two of the Fortifications, and end the class with learning a small solo from the works of James Truitte, original company member of Lester Horton Dance Theater and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Dancers may want to bring knee pads for some light floor work during the solo.
The class will be taught by Karen Williamson Kurelis who has studied extensively with James Truitte in the Horton Technique and has worked with Ana Marie Forsythe, Chair of the Horton Department at Ailey/Fordham B.F.A. Program at the Ailey School.
