Youngwon P. French
Youngwon has been working as a pianist with Cincinnati Ballet since the season 2010. She won several first prizes in piano competitions and awards including International Young Artists Piano Competition in Korea, Asia Piano Competition, Montreal Classical Music Festival, and Austrian Society Scholarship Competition in Canada.
Austrian Society Scholarship in 1995 led Youngwon to Vienna to study under Rudolf Kehler, and an internship position at Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) Television and Radio Symphony Orchestra in Vienna and Salzburg that summer. As a producer, she has been recognized for her creativity, research, and leadership in her own two productions, Tribute Concert to Glenn Gould (1994) and Leonard Bernstein as a Composer (1996) which were broadcast nationwide by CBC/SRC FM and by CKUT FM Radio in Montreal. She was also featured in The Gazette newspaper and The Strat newspaper in Montreal.
Youngwon as a soloist and chamber musician held recitals in Seoul, Buenos Aires, Montreal, and San Diego where she and her husband came from. As a collaborative artist, she has worked with McGill Contemporary Ensemble and G.E.M.S. (Group of the Electronic Music Studio). Also she has world-premiered solo, chamber, and concerto works by numerous contemporary composers such as Brian Cherney, Bruce Mather, Sean Ferguson, John Rea, alcides lanza, and many others.
Youngwon has worked as a pianist at CCM Dance of University of Cincinnati, NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), ASTA (American String Teachers Association), Musical Merit Competition, Point Loma Nazarene University, and University of San Diego. She lives with her husband Ken and her 4 years old son Jaemeson in Hyde Park, Cincinnati.
