“I started taking dance classes when I was three. My mom put me in ballet as a fun, girly thing for me to do,” says Katherine Sawicki, 18. Raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Sawicki trained with her home studio of Louisville Academy of Dance before going on to train with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School and, most recently, Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy. Sawicki’s dream role is that of Odette/Odile from the classic Swan Lake, and one of her favorite contemporary pieces is a new work by Edwaard Liang entitled Murmuration. “I’m excited for so much this season!” says Sawicki of being part of Cincinnati Ballet’s 50th Anniversary as a trainee. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to perform in my favorite full-length ballet (Swan Lake), to be a part of a brand-new production (King Arthur’s Camelot) and to be starting my career as a professional.”
Fun Fact: Katherine loves reading Agatha Christie novels.
