“At the age of three, my parents took me to see a local production of the ballet Cinderella. They knew I needed to be involved in dance, because I wouldn’t stop dancing up and down the aisles along with the music!” says Lafrenz, a Trainee. She trained with Dance Theatre of Elgin and the Faubourg School of Ballet before moving to New York City to train at Valentina Kozlova’s Dance Conservatory of New York under Kozlova and Margo Sappington. Lafrenz continued on to the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music in the ballet department, earning her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts and studying in Madrid at Victor Ullate Ballet. Lafrenz performed the role of Giselle in the nominal ballet during her senior year at CCM, partnered by Cincinnati Ballet’s own James Cunningham. “The sense of freedom I felt throughout the show was exhilarating and aided in my artistic growth,” she says. Lafrenz is looking forward to performing in Peter Pan during Cincinnati Ballet’s 2014-2015 Season, the challenge of furthering her artistic development while working under and alongside the inspiring staff and dancers, and is excited to be part of so many outreach programs that Cincinnati Ballet supports.
Fun Fact: When Olivia was in the 6th grade, she was the only student in her school to climb to the top of a rock wall in record time. She says, “Yes, I even beat ALL of the boys!”
