“I started dancing when I was three, because my parents always loved the arts and they wanted me to learn to love what they filled their lives with,” says trainee Mackenzie Dessens of her foray into ballet. Dessens, 18, is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, and trained with the Giacobbe Academy of Dance, School of American Ballet’s summer intensive, American Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive, and Houston Ballet. Dessens was entranced by ballet after seeing A Midsummer Night’s Dream by NYCB, and her favorite ballet is Giselle. If Dessens could dance any ballet role, regardless of gender, she would dance Gamzatti from La Bayadere. She is looking forward to “being a part of Victoria Morgan’s choreography, especially Ladies of the Lake” during Cincinnati Ballet’s 50th Anniversary Season.
Fun Fact: Mackenzie loves to cook, especially Southern recipes.
