While our 45th Anniversary honored our past, our golden anniversary celebrates Cincinnati Ballet’s future, and so, we bring you a season full of the bold and imaginative work, both recent and new, that has inspired our community and our dancers.

Cincinnati Enquirer: Ballet reveals dates for special 50th Season

The Kaplan New Works Series [4 World Premieres]
September 12-22, 2013

Our season opens with the ever-popular Kaplan New Works Series. Boasting four world premieres from three very different and talented female choreographers - Gina Patterson, Jodie Gates and Heather Britt - as well as the return of long-time Cincinnati Ballet collaborator Val Caniparoli. New Works fosters our biggest risks and most inventions, and it promises to be an inventive and unexpected evening. Also returning is The Man in Black, Kudelka’s poignant and personal work backed by Johnny Cash’s resonant voice, which pulled people back to the theater over and over again during its 2011 premiere.

Cincinnati Ballet’s collaboration with BalletMet Columbus has made possible some of the most spectacular ballets in our history. With our combined corps de ballet and through shared production expenses, each company is able to bring to their respective communities something far greater than they could offer individually. In October, Cincinnati Ballet and BalletMet come together to present the dramatic and captivating Swan Lake.


Frisch's Presents The Nutcracker

The holidays wouldn’t be complete without Frisch’s Presents The Nutcracker. The tradition returns for the ultimate family experience including stunning sets and costumes and Tchaikovsky’s melodious score played by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The beloved story of Clara and her nutcracker doll turned handsome prince is the dream-like adventure we cherish with loved ones season after season.


King Arthur's Camelot [World Premiere]
February 13-16, 2014

The highlight of our 50th Season comes in February when we bring you a major, world premiere ballet based on the legendary tale of King Arthur’s Camelot. The brand new work includes costumes by Sandra Woodall, one of the dance world’s most sought-after designers, an original musical composition by John Estacio and sets by Joe Tilford, familiar to Cincinnati audiences through his long-time relationship with Playhouse in the Park. Complete with magic, projections, puppets, jousting and all things Camelot, this will be Cincinnati Ballet’s biggest full-length ballet adventure in decades.


Boléro

Symphony in C

In March, we are thrilled to present one of those magnificent Balanchine ballets typically only seen on the east or west coast. In partnership with BalletMet, the triumphant work, Symphony in C, comes to Cincinnati and Columbus audiences. New York Times critic, Alastair Macaulay, hails Symphony in C as “the most exhilarating piece in world repertory.” Also on the bill is long-time favorite,
Boléro, featuring our highly disciplined Otto M. Budig Academy students and the technical prowess of our professional company. BalletMet will add a third piece to the bill TBD.


Ballet Toybox

Continuing for a third season, Ballet Toybox offers the perfect opportunity to introduce young children to the joy of dance. The program features CBII (Cincinnati Ballet’s Second Company) in a mix of ballet and storybook classics.

We close our 50th Anniversary Season with the return of Over the Rhine. Featuring Karin Bergquist’s honey-rich vocals, the band’s deeply emotional style pulls at your heart and inspires every step. Internationally renowned choreographer Jodie Gates makes her Cincinnati debut with the evening’s world premiere which will include new songs from Over the Rhine. Gates will be joined by favorite choreographers Missy Lay Zimmer and Andrew Hubbard.
